Starting about a week ago after a feeding, a few of my button polyps (protopalythoa) now have an odd appearance, with center bulging up and the tentacles pointing down. Only a few are doing this, the rest look OK. When I tried to feed them, the tentacles grabbed the food, but couldn't get the food to its mouth. Then I touched them and found they couldn't seem to close. I first noticed it right after I fed them some cut up shrimp last week and assumed that they had just eaten a lot, but it's been a week, so what gives?

Hmmmm. Perhaps some of the polyps haven't digested what you offered last week. You may want to try smaller food sizes. I never fed my polyps directly since they grow like wild fire regardless of being fed or not. They did occasionally catch very small particles of the Ocean Nutrition Prime Reef (thawed) frozen cubes and ate them without problems.

I was hoping they were still just digesting, but now they're dieing. If the problem was water quality, wouldn't all the polyps be closing up? The ones that are overextended are the only ones dieing. The remaining polyps look OK, at least to me. I guess I won't try feeding them chopped up shrimp any more.

I won't eat the shrimp myself either, if it is what did it....

Seriously, I usually never feed the polyps. They usually get all the food they need from light and whater critters they catch occusionally.
