Uggghhhh... - Little more detail please. 'Cause... "there is no pefect spot for the reef" just don't make sense.

Sorry - Pre-coffe post.

Anyway, it is a 90 G AGA tank. Painted back - 1 corner overflow, stand and canopy pretty standard. I would like to have this tank on a concrete or tiled floor

The wall I would like to put it on, would have it in a corner by the kitchen table. The issuse here is that it would
1) be in a sun room - so there may be temp issues, and the tank partially blocks a window.

There are two spots for it in the "family" room. One is where the wet bar currently is. There is no room to move the bar out to put the tank behind it. The bar would have to go. The other wall would be OK, but will be carpeted. If we ever move the tank to the basement, then I am afraid the carpet would be ruined in that spot.

The last option is to just put it downstairs outta the way, and move it again when the basement is finished. The advantage is it is a basement, the dissadvantage is that it is not "living" space yet. I like to see my tank!

So there are the choices...

Are you planning on building a space dedicated to it in the basement then? If so, I'd maybe go for the basement route.

Otherwise, I'd probably put it in the 2nd spot in the family room where you wouldn't have to get rid of the wet bar.. Carpet is usually fine as long as it doesn't get wet on a regular basis. - By the time the tanks compressed it beyond the point of no return its probably shot from age/use anyway.

So, I guess its "muffins" for me... ;)

A 90 g may be too big but my bar is big enough for a 38 g. It's where I keep my nanos though. I would just keep in mind...VOCAL POINT. REEF. BEAUTIFUL! LOOK AT ME! ADMIRE! CONVERSATION! 8)

You probably don't want to turn this into a large scale install, but is there a way you could install it into the wall behind the bar? That would be my choice if it's feasible. If not, I'd say put it on the carpet and save the bar. Then if you decide you don't like it in that spot you can move it to the basement when the basement is ready.

Putting it behind the bar was my 1st choice, but it is not possible because there is not enough depth for me to do it properly.

I still may try this though, and just make the bar very narrow.

If I had the chance, I'd plan it out -

Fish room - build behind it... house everything in there, keeps everything nice and quiet for viewing.
Flooring... pitch underneath and behind to a drain.
Electrical... everything wall mounted, seperate circuits for lighting
Tag all power to light switches...for easy on/easy off.

I'd find a spot for everything - the largest sump possible, the largest skimmer my wife would allow.

If I had a house, 90g would be the smallest sump I'd think about.

Plan it all on paper... that way when build it you're building it a second time and you'll have no regrets.

...eh..that's just me. :P

Hey brown, you still have that bicolor angel? He still picking at your corals?

Bicolor Blenny - yes I still have him, and he still picks on the Acro, but the acro is doing fine. I think the picking actually ENCOURAGES new growth!

He has cut back a bit though...

This is what will happen.
There is a perfect place for just such a thing in the basement, with the sump area hidden in the laundry room.
This is on my 5 year plan.

Right now it is new windows, kitchen, masterbath - $$$

The tank upgrades are back burner.
