Here it is around 3 years ago when I had first set up my 120 reef, and the 150 vivarium in the background was well grown in.

Here it is now, with the reef moved into the 150 and looking great, and a 240 DIY acrylic vivarium (just planted) on the 120's stand.

Impressive!

Looks kind of cramped in there though - why aren't they somewhere where folks can appreciate 'em? :)

I've been trying to get my wife to warm up to the idea of a vivarium with those poison frogs, but she won't have it. She has a strong anti-venemous-creepy-crawly bias I'm sorry to say. :(

Oooh I like that vivariam, and I'm guessing going the DIY route with acrylic means you can use thinner stuff as there's no issue of bowing :)

Btw how difficult is it to keep those things going? Seems you'd need to have some mister on a timer, but that leaves for a potential of mold wouldn't it?

Dan, that's just too awesome. Do you have pics of the tank & corals that are recent? As I recall you have kickass stuff in there!

Peace,

Chip

I like it cozy like that- -gives it that impressive zoo like quality. Do you have a place to sit and relax in there?

Want me to send you some paint for that stand? I'm thinking black or dark charcoal...

It's not as cramped as I guess it looks. The entire stepped down addition is open to a large living room, with the exception of the short wall on the left seen in the pictures. There is over 6 feet between the vivarium and the reef.

Browse the links on this forum and show them to her! Also dart frogs are completely non-toxic in captivity, and even in the wild only a few species are really hazardous.

There's also 3 big arched windows in the room; you can see one between the viv and reef. Right next to the viv is a nice table where I mess around on the laptop etc, so its pretty comfortable. I do tend to stand in front of the tanks though.

Well, I have no idea how thick acrylic would have to be for the tank if it was full of water. This was built with 1/2 inch. Shorter enclosures of course use much thinner. It seems plenty stout for this application.

Compared to a reef, vivariums are very easy. I have a mister on this tank; you can see the red heads at the top. It's set to come on every 2 hours during the day. Mold only appears in very new vivariums, and then it appears to be suppressed by bacteria or moss or something.

I'll have to take some soon, I don't know why I haven't gotten around to it. Some of my torts etc are getting really big.
