Im planning another reef and because of space problems i was thinking of having it on the porch where a pool is or in the garage.

Both would be shady and i would ofcourse get a chiller so it wouldnt overheat.

the question is, would the chlorine fumes from the evaporating pool kill everything?

what about car exhaust?

thankyou:)

Yep.. Car exhaust is gonna be an issue. And since you'll have to include an actual arm and leg (for gas) to any potential buyers of that H3 Hummer, you're stuck there.. - No deal on the garage.

Chlorine fumes sounds like a legitimate concern too.. - Better drain the pool, clean it out good and fill it with saltwater and put the reef there instead.

Go ahead, you can tell her we said it was the only possible way.. ;)

Ive always thought of doing something amazing like that though.

it seems like the florida summers would the get the best of it though.

Actually, to be serious, I'd think being near either could be a risk.

I have mine inside and I do what I can to keep even just kitchen fumes from reaching the tank.

I think the patio location would end up being more trouble then its worth. The pool fumes is one issue, but outdoor tanks present a lot of problems that need to be dealt with. Personally, it's too much work. Kick someone out of the house and dedicate a whole room to tanks ;)

You might be able to section off a portion of the garage so that you don't have to deal with the fumes. You could then insulate it so you don't have as big of a heat problem.

Unless you plan to run your car inside the garage (definitely NOT a good idea... ) I don't think the fumes will be a big issue. As long as you're just pulling the car in and shutting it off ASAP (and not backing it in) I don't think it would be a significant problem.

Steve Weast has an incredible tank that's setup in his garage. This question (exhaust fumes) appears in the FAQ on his site:
