Huw about some stand and canopy pics

No batteries for the digi cam but just finished my stand and canopy today! Took me a while to do get around to picking it back up (2 months! 8O ) but I'm finally staining it tomorrow. Will have pictures as soon as stain is done and batteries are back!

I would say because he could do it without adding any kind of extra framing. The light would be smaller than the opening if you turned it 45 degrees.

For two reasons, really. One, the angle of the Lumerarc and bulb is parallel with how I wanted the rockwork to be. The center wall runs the same length as the bulb that it's directly under, allowing me to mount frags on all 3 sides. There's more than enough spread to allow me to mount frags on the inside walls of each island, too. The lighting, rockwork, and the circulation form the returns were all planned together. Two, I wanted to avoid having too much light going into the overflow in the right corner.

If your simply looking for design ideas. Here are a couple pics of my basic old 90 FW stand.

Yes I am fishing for ideas. I have something in mind. A single large center opening with two doors. I am looking for hidden hindges that do not reuire the pocket like the one in my kitchen. Nice base board on the bottom of the stand. On the top of the stand have the sheating run high enough to cover the tank trim. On top of that planning a small "shelf" on the three viewable sides and a small crown molding under it. For the hood, it will be just tall enough to have my DE pendants 6-7in off the water. No doors on the hood. On the bottom some type of moulding, not sure what kind. Top of the hood will have the same effect as the stand, but with a larger crown moulding of the same design. Thinking oak plywood and a darkish stain. Will probably paint the inside of the stand and hood white.

Sounds real nice. I can tell you already have the pic in your head. As a carpenter, the description you just gave put one in mine and it is going to look awesome. If your going to do a DSB you may want to make your lower trim on the tank a few inches extra tall to cover all of the nasty looking algea between the glass and Sand.

Planning on a BB tank. So will want the wood trim just high enough to cover the tank trim.
