I have everything to make a faux sand bed ready. As I plan this out I am wondering why not just do it stright on the tanks bottom. The amount of weight this would add to a 220 isn't worth worrying about. The tank is so heavy as it is, whats a few more lbs. If I one day decide I don't like the faux sand I can put regular sand right on top of the faux one. So why not?

Quite a few people are trying this now.

So far I have only heard one bad experience where it was put in pretty thick and the heat from the reaction cracked the bottom of a fairly large tank (around 260 gal. I think). I would stick with thin layers and make sure its fully cured and cooled down before adding any water to it.

I will be doing this when the time comes for my current build.

I've no experience with either myself, but would love to see pics during the process, whichever one you decide to do :D
