Thales, or the member formerly known as righty and lefty......

I have used a few brands....

Aquamedic - small and a bit loud. a pain to clean the screen.

a teclima coil drop in. didn't last long.

a custom sea life now (current USA). prolly one of the best around.

now i have a coralife aquachill. it is a 1/4hp on a 180g. I wish i bought the 1/2hp. it runs quiet. not silent. it is the quietest i have owned. If i had to do it all over again i would take the great lengths to get a 1 h/p unit and plumb it outside. or do what garry thomas does. have a sump system that is 8x the tank volume and never have to worry about heating all that water!!!!

Thanks guys!

ben, I do have a massive under the house sump, its just that for like 3 weeks a year (not in a roe) the temp everywhere in the neighborhood get like 95-100 and the tank starts to climb. I am looking at a in room ac unit instead. We'll see.

Yeah rich, if you had the ability just cool that little "work area" behind your tank probably would do loads to help.

I found a window AC unit in my attic. Forgot about that. I put it in the window in the bathroom behind the tank 'room'.

Air temp has dropped nicely. We'll see what the tank does through the day.

I am not sure what you are asking about the electric bill.
