Wierd alge issue

Ok the 220 is up and running, at this point it is BB, which exploded in hair algea, as did the back of the tank. This tank was set up by combinding several smaller tanks. Here is where it gets wiered. The refug has no alge, the front has none, no do the sides or rock. Just the bottom and back. Ideas?

How long has it been like this? I'm guessing the algae will spread

FWIW, I've seen tanks that have algae in the display but none in the refugium. The only variable I can imagine is lighting (and perhaps quality of substrate).

It happened from 0 to 60 in 2 days. Moring of day one was 1/4" growth, evening day two it was ove 1" long. I have cut the lighting back, manually removed a bunch of it, and hooked up my phoseban reactor to it. Water change in the tune of 50 gals will be in the am. The growth has seemed to stop at this point though.

Clean the hair algae off with a scraper or scrubby pad, and then use your magnet to clean the bottom and back as best as you can.

I've had two /good/ hair algae blooms. Both times it seemed it didn't stick to the glass that I cleaned often. In fact, it grew on dirty glass better than rock. As to what initiated the bloom, I'm not that experienced. Maybe something died? Kharma? Good luck.

What sort of flow have you got around the bottom and back, are there rocks near the outbreak, are they raised slightly off the substrate bed? I agree with the dirty glass statement...deffo one to watch out for.

The flow is pretty strong an the back and bottom. I think the dirty glass might be the ticket.
