Fish has been in the Q-tank since 7th March. Noticed some small white spots yesterday morning, but I took it for air bubbles. attached to its head. Watch it this afternoon, the spots seem to spread to the front body. Swimming is normal and eating well. Shall I apply medication now?

Regards,

Jimmy from Hong Kong.

If its been in QT since the seventh and the spots are just now showing...I dont know
I would look up some pictures of ICH and other disease and make double sure it has something before adding medicines. Nearly all medicines other than methlyne blue can have serious side effects.

The hyposalinity treatment on the other hand cant hurt anything and if it is ICH you will have already started a good regime to get rid of it.

Just my opinion of course.

I tend avoid any treatment unless necessary. If the fish isn't scratching and continues to eat/breath well and behave normally I would watch and wait.

If you pursue a treatment, hyposalinity would be one to consider although I can't say I have much experience with it personally. A salinity of 12-14 PPT for 30 days is what the experts recommend. If you go this route, it would be best to use something that can accurately measure salinity like a refractometer.

Here's an article that includes some discussion on hyposalinity treatment:

Other than that, I would just monitor parameters in the treatment tank (especially temp and ammonia) to make sure things are staying stable. Make sure the fish has some places to hide to reduce stress (large PVC fittings work well for this) and feed a variety of nutritious foods.
