overflow water everywhere

so i just had my first panic attact and flood in my basement. my ? is i didnt have any ro water made up so i got tape water condish and used the stuff from my tape, but the problem is now my skimmer is going crazy with bubbles there is so much that lots of air bubbles are getting in the tank can i shut the skimmer of for awhile or is this bad. i guess it was time for a water change lol.

Tap water conditioners are about worthless in my experience. - If its not RO, might just as well use straight tap.

As for the skimmer going ballistic..... - What kind (brand/model) is it? - With most it's better to let them run, a few others (small, typically worthless) might as well turn them off because they barely fit the function description of a skimmer anyway.

Did you add any water conditioner to the water? That usually makes skimmers go nutty.

Can you adjust the skimmer to slow production, If not you can turn if off to straighten things out.

Is the skimmer in a sump? Often the water level will make your skimmer overflow if it's too high (less head pressure for water). maybe you put that in.

If you're going to use tapwater make sure you use a dechlorinator/chloramine product.
