I have been extensivly trying to clean the hair algae out of my tank by cutting down on nutrients. I'm skimming (Very Dark) using carbon and phos-x in my canaster filter. I've cleaned the canister every 3 - 5 days regularly. The water clarity is very good.

Finally it appears I have it on the brink of death. My Turbo snails swoop in and eat it. The rock then stays clean of hair algae. Existing hair algae looks like its starving. It's starting to turn a brownish colour. I'm also getting green and brown algae film on the glass. Is this normal when hair algae is being starved.

Water Params.

Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - <5 lowest reading. Almost clear
Phosphate <.25 lowest reading. Almost clear

Any help would be great.

Thanks
