Normally, I'd say I'm already overstocked, but I just added a slightly oversized skimmer. In my 110g, I already have a 5" Sohal, 3" Purple Tang, 3 Orchid Dottys, and 21 blue/green chromis.

Should I stop there?

TIA

Karl

To stay in line with the Red Sea theme, I was thinking either a Regal Angel or a Zebra Swallowtail Angel. I'm leaning more toward the latter since it won't be intimidated by the aggressive feeding tangs.

I was told from someone on here the ideal would be 1"/7-10ga.

I'm not sure that's true or not but I have 7 fish in my 110 and I though I was overstocked.

Swallowtails are gorgeous critters, and Regals are great if you get net caught, tough choice. I would go with the swallowtail. You are the best judge of what the bio impact would be and if you think your system can handle it, I'd go for it.

What's the worst case? ;) you can always take out a dozen of those chomis

That depends on a lot of things, what type of fish, what filtration/skimming maintenance habits, corals, etc you have. Unarce has had a lot of experience (understatement of the year actually) and so he can push envelope a bit more ;)

Your chromis will eventually kill each other off and you only have two "big eaters", so I'd go ahead and add another fish. Your new skimmer helps make that possible IMHO.

Are you doing religous WC's? If so, then it's a no-brainer IMO.

Lawdawg - Flattery will get you...a nice shoulder rub  :D

Actually, I don't have experience in keeping a high fishload, as this is the most fish I've ever cared for at once. I'm the stubborn reefer that's only started using a skimmer this year, and primarily relied on low fishload, macro/bivalves, and WCs to maintain water quality.

Louey - I started out with 15 a few months ago. 4 were either sucked into the overflow or eaten by my ruby serpent. The remaining 11 seemed to have found peace with eachother ever since. I added 10 more as I think the high number seems to curb their aggressiveness.

My WCs are done monthly by vacuuming sections of the sand bed. Perhaps I should wait until the new skimmer is broken in before deciding.

Works for me, and just to be fair I'd be delighted to tutor you in the art of complete body massage, an art form unto itself ;)

Now that I would have to think about upping to at least 30 gallons bi-weekly. You'd be surprised how much that does to help with water quality. The skimmer should take what, a week to break in? What's your water testing at now?

Honestly, it's probably been a good 10 years since I've tested for anything other than calcium and alkalinity  It's not a good practice, but nowadays I just let my SPS tell me if something's wrong :?

 that's a good way, I used to use my xenia. I was just wondering what your pH was at, but if you're jackin in calcium that's kinda moot.

Key word here is Red Sea :D All are net caught in the Red Sea, mainly by filippino collectors.

I'd go Regal Karl. Those RS Regals are it :D

One or two more fish won't hurt IMO; I also think you'll lose most of the Chromis in time, and I'd venture a guess that one of your Pseudo will get bumped when the other two spawn.

I would think you would be fine. I disagree on the chromis dying though. I've had the same initial 6 for almost 2 years in my 180. I have around 21 to 22 fish in my 180 and have 0 issues. SPS are colorful and tank is doing well. 4 of them are tangs.

Gresh - Red Sea stuff seems to be hard to come by as of late. I've only been seeing the Indo Regals locally :(

Len - The chromis thing I think has more to do with shipping, as they're bagged like feeders. The Orchids have spawned a few times already. Each one has their own little burrow between the sand and rock.

Jay - Good to see you at RDO. I'm still on the fence about adding, but I appreciate the encouragement. I'm sure if some local offers their healthy and established specimen up for sale, I'll really know which side of fence I'll be jumping to.

Yah, the middle east ain't all that much of cake walk right now, nor is importing boxes from there that have to be fast tracked into the USA as perishable ;)

FWIW, every few months the rumor floats around about it being closed, then a month later, the rumor starts in that it's open again
