I ordered a Sohal from my LFS over the weekend. He called today to say it came in. I couldn't pick it up today because tonight was open house at my son's school.

I usually like to leave fish at my LFS for a week or two, but in the case of the Sohal, I think I'll take him home ASAP as long as he is eating and looks healthy. I just don't think any amount of quarantine is good for a fish like a Sohal that need alot of swimming space. I think the best thing for him is to go in my 300G now. There is some risk in that, I know. But I think leaving a Sohal in a 1' square tank at the LFS is much worse on him.

I don't think I would trust a trigger in a tank with SPS, shrimp and snails. Seems like a gamble to me. Nice fish tho. Good luck.

The blue jaw trigger won't bother SPS corals at all. They don't mess with the live rock either, like say a huma huma would. Their mouths are very different. I have a harlequin tusk, so shrimp are no longer in the cards for me. I knew that when I got the tusk, and the tusk is worth it.

I haven't seen either fish mess with my snails. There's still the occasional empty snail shell, but that may be normal attrition. I'll add more snails later if I think I need them. Right now I don't think I really need them.

My bristle stars have been ignored by the tusk and the trigger. My clams have also been ignored.

Good for you, I want shrimp in my tank. I like the little buggers and my kids have requested cleaner shrimp.

I really like the Blue Jaw and am quite interested in one. Unfortunately, I like my little cleaner shrimp and cant sacrifice it for dinner as it was my first inhabitant. How long do cleaners live?

Cleaner shrimp live a long long time.

I stopped by my LFS tonight to pick up my Sohal. They wanted to keep it awhile longer. The clerk that I spoke to was a noob and the owner wasn't there. But the noob said they want to keep it because they saw signs of ick. I saw no signs at all. The fish looked great to me and I had them feed it and it ate aggressively. I'm happy to leave it there until they give it a clean bill of health.

It's a beauty. A large 6 - 7" specimen. He will be the boss of my tank on day one. I just hope he doesn't kill my two other tangs. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.

Xanthicthys triggers are the exception to the rule. They are zooplanktivores, they shouldn't harm cleaner shrimp, and they will not bother your other fish. Very peaceful. I've seen blue jaws get bullied by large angels and tangs that are smaller than them.

The only thing I'd be hesitant to add with them is a very small shrimp or crab after a very large one is established in the tank.

The Sohal is in my tank. His face got a little scrapped up in the net. Other from that, he looks fine. The rest of my fish are keeping their distance from him. My small sailfin doesn't act scared though. He bows up like he's ready to take him on even though the Sohal is easily 5 times as large.

I picked up a cleaner wrasse too, just for good measure. I know they should be left in the ocean, but this one was already out of the ocean and he may help my fish stay clean if the new Sohal cause stress and ich.

We'll see how it goes.

Bryan, just click on my 300G tank thread and start at the back. I don't recall when I last took full tank shots. It's been awhile. I haven't started any new threads, so whatever's there is, is in that thread.
