Euroreef and ASM skimmers

The main difference would be with material. The similar models will perform almost the same, where I'd give the edge to ER.
ASMs are made of molded plastic compared to the cast acrylic of ERs. This makes a huge difference when it comes to durability as you're more likely to get a crack or a leak with an ASM.
As long as you don't spike your skimmer too hard after a touchdown, ASM is a good value. You can also look into the Octupus skimmers, too.

Never used an octo so I can't comment. 
I have used both ER and ASM and the work just about exactly the same. I look for a used ER and if I can't find that I go with a new ASM. As Karl said, the major difference is materials, but with normal use, I don't know why I would want to pay for the 'armor plating'.

The CS line has been discontinued. The RS line is competitive with the ASM. The rating is all subjective. I do not recall seeing a standard for sizing a skimmer anywhere.

I would not have now either, but when I placed my order with PA Jason called me to let me know and gave me the option to swap it out. Saved me enough money to get my light and top off system with money left over to take Mrs Wazz out for dinner. With customer service like that it is hard to go anywhere else.
