Heard from my friend that people can buy from Home Depot, silicon free, but people have to wait until they have some in stock. Will it be safer just buy from LFS? How big the difference is pricewise?
There used to be a company called "southdown" it was the EXACT SAME as some of the stuff in the fish store. (I forget the aquarium brand name)
The HD stuff was $4 for a 50# bag.
The aquarium stuff was $10 for a 5# bag.
My first tank, and the tank I have now are southdown. But they don't make it anymore.
do not use home depot sand unless you can find the one that they dont sell anymore  :lol2:
buy urself aragonite sand from online where you can prob. get it cheaper then a LFS... One of our vendors on the board will be more then happy to get you what you need...
or a couple of .com's you can visit for the sand...
Thanks for the info.
Just Googled and found this: http://www.crabstreetjournal.com/products/substrates/playsand.html
So the company name has changed to YardRight and they are still doing the sand business at least until 2005. I am gonna check some HD and LOWES nearby. Wish myself luck, hiahia.
Do yourself a favor and just go to the LFS and buy some sand from them or go to a MR vendor and buy some reef safe sand. If you cut costs now on your initial setup and cut a corner that you shouldn't cut you could cause a problem for your tank in the future.
