Maybe I need a bigger house.

Maybe I need to get a "real" job.

the corner tanks are great. oceanic has a great line too. i would consider the corner if you have aspace problem.... this could allow you the flexibility you need and get some real nice stuff too.

So I am looking at tank dimensions now.

The 75 is given as 48 x 15 x 24. I was under the impression it was wider and shallower.

Then I saw that for whatever reason the TruVu 100L is (trivially) cheaper:

60 x 18 x 20.

So it is wider and shorter.

Would two HQI lamps be enough for a 5 foot long tank? I assume since it is shallower, this geometry might actually be better for lighting than the 75 quoted above.

The corner tanks these guys make are either 50 gal (too small) or 100 gal.

The 100 gal is 36 x 36 x 24, which I assume means 24" deep.

In this case, could I get away with one, say 250W HQI?

Three is better, but two would work...especially 250w DEs.

I would not go with a corner tank. IMHO, of course.

Why?

From what I can see,

PROS: Fits in a corner (duh) which would mean it could go in my living room rather than dining room. One big light might be all I need. Looks less like a box.

CONS: I'd probably need a corner sump. 3' long swimming space instead of 4' or 5'. With two 6+ year old tangs, this is already an issue with my 55. Tank is deeper and wider and perhaps harder to keep clean.

If you go bare bottom or false bottom they are easy to keep clean. I had outlet blow straight down in the corner of the tank and it stayed clean. You don't really need that large of a sump but there is a good bit of room under a 90.

1 light could work with the proper aquascaping.

I would not just for the sake of the tangs. They need as much lateral swimming space as possible.

I ran a 90 corner for several years and gave it away. The curved front must be cleaned by scraping horizontially. I am 6' 5" and my arm wasn't long enough to get to the bottom without putting my arm in to the armpit. I will never have another curved glass tank.

No one in my family wants the corner tank either. We are going to go look at aquariums today, but my current idea is either the 75 gal or 100L. I personally prefer the 100L. I am going to tell my wife the L stands for litre, and maybe get away with this. Heh heh.

good luck shopping. 100 liters is only about 26 gallons - I don't know if she'll fall for it - but good luck! :)

When she sees that the tank is longer is probably all it'll take to convince her it's bigger! :D But it seems like if she's fine with a 75, then 100 shouldn't be that hard to get away with. Compromise with her on something else!!! But like jayo said, good luck!

If the 100L is 60" long, then I'd definitely go for that one. Your tangs will thank you for it. :)

That's what I am thinking. I have had them for 6 or 7 years in a 55. Now they are penned up in a 50 T. So they deserve it. As do I.

I found some crazing on the bottom of the 55, making me think it might make a better lizard tank than a sump.

What kind of sump should I get for 100L?

As big as you can...55 would be fine, but if you noticed crazing of the glass, maybe not that tank. A 40L is what I had on my old 60" 110g.

I say don't go with a corner tank either.

The bowfront is hard to clean, its really hard to get nice flow because the only place you can hang things over the back is way in the back corner.

I doubt I will buy another either.

I say get rid of all the tanks on the floor in any room and custom build one that completely covers that opening with the counter in the corner with the imac.

Cool idea huh?
