Seems my Frogspawn is starting to fade on the top.

Week ago purchased a Frogspawn from a reefer that was shutting down his tank. It's a little bigger than my fists together and was vivid metallic green with purple tips. It was located about mid level under 2-150W MHs.

In my tank it's top is about 14-15 inches from the surface under 2-250W and have noticed in the last couple of days the top polyps seems like they are starting to fade to a pale green and no longer metallic. The bottom is still a darker green. Guessing might be shock from the 250W as didn't acclimatize for the light.

Question is should I lower it or leave it and hope it will start getting it's colour back on it's own?

they are pretty tough little corals... they generally bounce back from all sorts of things....

If it were me Id definitly move them to the bottom of the tank for a few months and see how they do.

I have seen frogspawn thriving right up under 250w MHs, so I know they can handle it.

If I am getting a coral that was accustomed to much less light that I have, I usually either run the halides for a shorter duration for a few days, or set the coral on the tank bottom for a few days after acclimation, just to give the newcomer time to adjust.

I'm thinking its not so much a matter of PAR as it is color temp..

What temp(s) (K) are your 250's? - What were the 150's?
What do you have for actinics? - What did the other tank have?

Looking like I'll move it to the bottom of the tank. Would a week be good before moving it back up, will it get it's colour back?

Just to point out again, it's just the top that appears to be fading, not the sides or bottom, but as for bulbs, I have 2-250W 14K (Hamilton) with 2-40W 50/50 fluorescents. Trying for a dawn/dusk with the fluorescents, on for 12.5 hours with the MHs on for 8 hours in the middle. Not sure of the spectrum of the tank the Frogspawn came come from but I'll asked.

I did pick up a crocea clam a few days later (fr the same guy) that I placed directly below one of the MHs about a foot from the surface. I am light acclimatizing the clam by starting off with 15 pieces of window screen over a light diffuser and will be removing one a day.

Not that I'm typing this wonder if I should get some more screen material and shade the Frogspawn also? It's just that the FS is in the center so would need some big pieces and would also then be shading some small montis and acros I have.
