MH and burn in time/ color

I just replaced MH bulbs on my 120, 2 Ushio 250 a week apart. Corals are showing great polyp extension, but the color is much more yellow than the coralife bulbs that were with the light when purchased. I prefered the cooler white color. Will they burn in a bit more white, or will they stay this little. They are marked as white, not yellow 10K

My corals love the lights, I just don't like the tank with the yellowish hue.

I have a 6" Squamous clam with a snail, or whatever the heck the spiral thing is on its side. This thing puts out slimy stuff when I am feeding. Is this a problem for the clam? It doesn't seem bothered. I just wanted to make sure it won't do any damage to my beautiful clam.

What ballast are you using? Also, you didn't mention what color temperature the bulbs are, I'm assuming 10K.

10K (in top post) Ballasts are the ones that came with the Coralife Fixture. It throws out about 650watts total with MH and actinics, it does not have moon lights built in. It is sitting over a 120 tall.

10k bulbs with the exception of Reeflux bulbs are very yellow by comparison. You may find 12 or 14k bulbs more to your liking.

Would I be able to swap them without causing any problems for the corals?

Yes you can swap them. The closer you are to 6,500k the more usable light you're providing (and the yellower.) The farther you get from 6,500k (closer to 20,000k) will be bluer but less of that light will be usable for the corals.

Going from say a 20,000k bulb to a 10,000k bulb could shock the corals because the amount of usable light is MUCH higher in a 10,000k bulb. Remember, our corals don't have eye lids. Making the "sun" much brighter too quickly can shock them.
