I use the Phoenix 14ks in the 250 hqi flavor. Thus far I am extrememly pleased with them. No experience with the 2 you mentioned.

I've used the 14000k hamiltons, and they give a nice color although they're not very high on the PAR side (but I believe that's the same for any 14k bulb)

I heard the Pheonix bulbs are great but I have 175 watt moguls. Pheonix only makes DE bulbs correct?

I am willing to lose some PAR for the asthetics. The 10Ks are very white and do not make the corals show much, even with actinic supplements.

I would consider 12K bulbs, but posts here in the past indicate that Sunburst bulbs tend to be unreliable. Unless they have corrected the problem?

I have the Phoenix 250W HQI adn I like the color of the tank but after 7 months I am noticing the color of some of the corals is lacking. This can be to the fact that I dont feed the tank either. When i forst added the 14K Phoenix I loved the color of the corals.

The Iwasaki 175 watt 14Ks did really well in Sanjay's PAR tests and run at a true 14K/15K color temp (not overly blue like many so called 14Ks). Not sure if that's blue enough for ya but might be worth looking into...

We used to run the 12K Sunbursts in the shop I ran. I liked them, but as far as appearance they were crap next to the 20K Radiums.

Still, they *were* bluish.

Peace,

Chip

I had 20 K's and they were too blue. That's why I am looking for 21-14 K with decent PAR. The 10 K XMs have good PAR, but are not blue enough IMO.

We have been using he iwasaki aqua 2 15k bulbs in our last tank. We have gone through the gammet of different bulbs, all have pros and cons.

The iwasaki 15k puts out tons of light for the power and is very high efficiency bulb accross the board. The light that it puts out is a pure white light, no hinge of yellow at all. But I prefer to have my lamps look a little more purple murple, but not at the cost of light loss. i really like the look of a phoenix bulb, but wanted to provide a little more productivity in the system.

Bubs are about 6 months...so far so good. I'll probably buy them again.

So, the Iwasaki 14K's look white? According to Sanjay's test, he states that they are true 14K with the usual punch of a lower temp bulb.
