Dechlorinator?

Is it necessary? I have heard it metioned a couple times in the last few weeks here in the forums. Am I incorrect in thinking that my six stage RO/DI removes it as well as everything else. My corals are fully extended so Im not worried. Just curious.

Chlorine will dissipate in 48 to 72 hours, but chloramine, which is now more typically used, will not, so you either need to get rid of it with activated carbon or use a reducing agent. The activated carbon should be sufficient.

Yes, the carbon in RO/DI should be good for chloriamine, if you change it periodically.

Should/Can I use Chlorine remover after conversion to salt water from fresh? Or should this be done before I add my salt?

Read the direction on the product. Most that "I seem work only in freshwater, so my guess is that you have to do it before adding salt.

I bought SeaChem "Prime" to dechlorinate my water as well as take care of some of the amonia. It claims that you can not only add it to salt water, but you can does it straight into your tank. So I will toss some of that into my saltwater bucket and see if this swimming pool odor goes away.

I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work in salt water, but what I do if I use this is I use it in fresh water, then use carbon to get rid of it, and then mix in salt.

Dumping a reducing agent into your tank isn't a great idea.
