Well put!!!
Yes and thanks Moloko.
I don't no why I assumed Chip was in industry.

Probably because I used to be for around 5 years.

I'll also throw in my vote for the tomini. Just a stunning fish.

Peace,

Chip

Thanks for the explaination! I really do appreciate your insite. I was waiting for Minh to do the same but didn't get it. :D
Crissy,
I am not sure what else I can say. You recommended a fish for 100 g tank that have the potential of being 20+ inches (longer than the width of most 100 g tank) You did this because you trusted a vendor who stated that this fish only get to about 8 inches in captivity. I pointed this out and stated that we should not trust information from vendors. I was hoping that you stop trusting information given by vendor unles you can confirm it with other sourses.
I know that you don't have any secondary motive. You just want to give recommendation regarding a very beautiful fish. IMO the information you use to give recommendation was not first hand experience and was poor information at best.

Like Len, I hope that you would take information, or advices from a vendor with a large grain of salt. Not all vendor should be distrust, but I recommend that you do what I do--distrust them until they demonstrated to your sastifaction that their advices can be trusted
I am truly sorry if you are offended. I only want to point out that I do not agree with your advice.

Minh, I trust what you say is true totally. I didn't quite understand the "wild and captive" info. Now I understand it and I will definately take your advice of not trusting the vendor info or atleast taking it with a grain of salt. I was only offended by the way you said it not what you were saying. Thanks for clarifying. Additionally, thank you for your insight in this matter. It's appreciated.

Crissy,
Now I understand. Sorry. It did not occur to me that you were confused regarding wild and captive size. Please accept my apology.
BTW, size is not the only factor we should consider for aquarium suitability. What they eat, their temperament, how easy it is to get them to eat in captivity, any special requirement to name a few.

I usually compare a few vendors info for that....food, temperament...but never thought about size or the fact of easily being able to feed them in captivity. New thing to think about.

I do accept your apology and I'm sorry I was probably being too sensitive.

Women and hormones! :?

I don't ever read vendor's info. Sometimes they get it right but you have no way of knowing when they do!

Free resources I like to use:
www.fishbase.org
www.google.com (It helps to use the latin name+"diet","habitat","maximum size", etc. etc., depending on what you're looking for.)
Here at RDO! Also at www.advancedaquarist.com. Try searching both.

Others:
The "Reef Fishes" series by Scott W. Michael
The series by Rudie Kuiter et al. There is a Seahorses, Angelfishes, Butterflyfishes, Basslets, Surgeonfishes, and Fairy and Rainbow Wrasses edition. They look like this:

Well anyways, Today I fed the fresh water tank (30,000 gal. @ BPS). 20 dozen shinners. The Tarpn and Catfish love em. The large mouth bass tear em up. It is a joy to watch them eat. I try to feed so the childern can watch too.

That must be fun to see. I have been to the BPS in Dania, and the World Wide Sportsman in Islamorada. Both have very nice tanks. The Dania one shares a parking lot with the IGFA museum, which is also a cool place to visit. I was unaware that tarpon could live in freshwater. Is it pure freshwater or is it more of a brackish setup? Do tarpon swim up rivers in the wild? I can imagine them being in the estuaries but didn't expect them to be full on freshwater.

Meloco, my vote is for the tomini! :D

Thanks BT, the Tomini is currently at the top of the list.
I am not going to give up with out a fight. I vote for the A. japonicus

 I still love the japonicus. Overall I think it is a more attractive fish. But seeing as this is my first tang, I am hoping the Tomini might be a little easier to maintain. I am sure I will have a japonicus sometime in the future though, they really are nice. Of course, this all depends on availability and price as well. If I happen to be at the LFS and fall in love with a japonicus before finding a tomini who knows.
