See that is a cool idea. Mine was the result of an error of judgement. The wife did take it pretty good though. Kinda

Regarding the ruge amount of rocks that one needs to set up a big tank, did you ever consider "man-maid" rocks? I made some for my tank. It took time to cure and stuff, but now they look just like the rest....
I have a fish only tank though. I am not sure how the corals would react to the cement...
BTW, the tank is looking great so far

Ok perhaps I am blind, but the wife seems to think that the tank looks almost as blue as the pics. I can openly admit the woman is normally right. With that being said here is what I have for light, and perhaps you can tell me how to get it not so blue. Actually at night the room has a purple tint.

I have 2 6ft Vho super actinic i the middle. I have 2 4ft white in the front. I have 2 4ft super actinic in the back. I know the blue light penetrates further than the white, so thought it was better. They are all 10k rated bulbs.

What can I do to not be so blue. I know the obvous is to change out some of the blue, but what do I change to? Will it hurt the overall power of the light to swap for a white?

Should I just put flash lights in?? HAHAHA just kidding

They're not all 10K. Change out some actinics for white if you don't like it so blue. I would stagger it too. Half 10k (white) and half actinic.

Should I just swap out one 6 footer for a white one? What do you mean that they are not all 10k?

Actinic bulbs are not 10kk. IIRC actinic are somewhere near 20kk. If you do not like the blue look swap some fo the actinic for 10kk bulbs. Personally I like the way it looks.

Yeah, and for better "mix", stagger the bulbs. One blue, one white, and so forth...

And are you sure you have 10,000K bulbs and not 12,000K? They both look white.

Perhaps I am not sure after all. I know I have 6 bulbs total. I put the white upfront because i think it makes the fish look good. The blues are in the back to make the corals jump out. I like the way it all looks, except for the purple glow at night. THat and my wife telling me," It looks to blue to me".

Being I only have 2 white you would say to put one in back? I can try it tonight after they cool. Should I put the other white all the way in back or as close to the middle as possible? Thanks.

Is there another way to tell the K reading of a bulb?

Try it and see if you like it. Which brand bulbs do you have? You might have to check with whom you got it from. I've got URI bulbs and they don't say it on them. But I know that Aquasun is 10000K and Actinic White is 12000K. Super Actnic is 420nm which is probably around/more than 20000K.
