FYI, unless they defy the laws of physics they most likely won't help your heat problems. Most of the heating that occurs due to lighting comes a direct result of light entering the tank. If these give off as much light as a 250w MH then it'll have the same effect (of course they don't seem to but that's another argument :)).

Wrong on both counts. :)

Still no one using the darn things. I want to talk to someone with "hands on" experience. Maybe by Christmas the price will come down.

Explain.

Only thing I could possibly think of is that the wavelengths are of such a range that it doesn't interact with the water, which I'm not really leaning towards.

The water also gets heated up by the proximity of very hot lights.

Check out the Advanced Aquarist article re the evaluation of these lights.

I'm not saying the proximity of lights isn't a factor, but I am saying light energy plays way more of a factor than the temperature of the bulbs (except of course maybe in cases when you have a hood with very little ventilation).

I did see the AA article, and quite frankly I don't know what to think about it, some sketchy reasoning in some cases that don't lead to the same conclusions as I would have, granted I know there's a lot of technical stuff that wasn't posted that might clear things up, but as it stands I'm not sold on anything the article claims.
