My sis-in-law just move back to town. She is now setting up her tank and needs a place for her fish. I offered the room and want to know what type of fish it is.

It looks like a wrasse (physical features) but I'm not sure what kind....

It's yellow with a purple stripe along the top with a sunburst colored tail fin.

Can anyone identify? I really should have took a pic but he's hiding (like all new fish do) and it's hard to get a pic.

Hmm...well saying it has the physical features of a wrasse is a bit like saying a fish has the physical features of a Hawkfish, and as you know, a Longnose and a Flame Hawk are not shaped like each other even a little bit.

Wrasses are no different, so...
Can you be a bit more specific? What is the cranial morphology like? Size? Caudial fin shape? Dordal fin? Noticeable dentition? Elongate?, etc, etc...

I may or may not be able to narrow it down from your responses, but it will also improve your chances with others here.

I could say it sounds like a Bodianus species, but without more info it's just a shot in the dark.

I found him Jim, but thanks! I know that was an broad description. I searched and searched until I found him.

All my sis-in-law could tell me is what food to feed it and it likes bristle worms.
