My once, very slow growing gps have migrated to wps (white star polyps). Anyone ever experience this before?

My gps have never grown well, and they are all white now however still seem to be growing. The funny thing is, new polyps sprouting up are white from the get-go; it is not as though they begin green then turn white, kind of strange but also neat - I've never seen them white.
Any thoughts or experiences out there; could they simply have bleached? Why is new growth white?
The tank overall is doing fine.
