Well, in that case, only experiment can lay the issue to rest. Get the following setup ready, and you maybe able to publish something on the AAOM.

Use a waterjacket for a CF tube and measure the amount of heat. See the design of a calorimeter for detail. Do the same with MH with comparable wattage, or use a standard unit like calorie per watt per second for comparison.

Report the result, should be a nice article.

Alternative is to dig up some spectral charts, but the analysis will not be easy due to the physics involved.

okay, here are the results:

10000K 65W PC = 34KCal/W/s
10000K 175W MH = the waterbag melted and well..let's just say that i can't ever go back to that store 8O :lol:
