This is not a reef question, but I know somwone will have the answer. My pool has a chlorine generator and needs to have between 4,000 and 5,000 ppm of salt. what would the reading be on my refractometer. from my reef tank.
You will need a better hydrometer for a very low range to measure 5,000 ppm, which a .5% solution.
5% would be 1.003 roughtly so .5% is a very low level.
There would probably be more efficient ways of testing in the proper range but I have no pool and thus no incentive to investigate.
We use testing strips to check the PH level in the pool. We adjust the levels as needed. The salt is added a couple bags at a time (salt for water softeners) check gauge, if not regulated then add more. If too much, skim, then add more water.
That's what we do at my mothers but she has a 24000 ga pool. It's the same jist but on a lower level.
Yeah, I don't think refractometer is good enough for 5ppt application. You may want to see if you can get some conductivity/resistivity meter or even hydrometer ( 8O ) that may work with 5ppt range with good resolution.
