Ordered a pair of these bulbs from Premium. First impressions are that they're very bright and produce a ice white (hint of blue) light. The Ushio 14KK are definitely a lot brighter and more blue then their 10KK. It's still a fairly white light compared to other 14KK offerings like Aquaconnects or Hamiltons.

I'm hoping these color up my corals. I'll run these for 60 days before I make judgement. I may try 20KK next. I previously used Aquaconnects, and while the AC produced beautifully colored lights to my eyes, a lot of my SPS did not look as colorful as I was hoping for.

Do those Ushio's come in lower wattage? Never heard of the 14kK bulbs.

The 14K is new. Sanjay tested them in May of this year, but they've been unavailable until this month AFAIK. I've seen it in 175W too but not 250W SE (not sure of the DE one is similiar .... doubtful).

Indoor or outdoor lighting? I'd be weary of having metal halide bulbs all over the house because of energy efficiency and exposure to that intensity...

Len,

Do you know or have a link to what the 400W tested at. Right now, I'm working out a deal with AquaConnect for some of their bulbs, but won't bother if the Ushio's have a strong PPFD.

TIA

Ah, new bulbs for the "tank", is it? Tell me Mister Ho, how long have you been seeing this "tank"? Does it ever suggest you do things? Maybe even... "bad" things?

"Honest, Officer, I didn't want to kill those prostitutes but the tank told me to!"

Delusions can be dangerous. I'm just sayin', is all.

Karl,

You should know by now that Len does not have a tank. This is all a figment of his imagination.

By responding to his imagination we are simply feeding his subconcious. We need to have an intervention. It should be at someones house that has a "real" tank so that we can help len through his time of need by showing him that tanks do exist in our dimension. It is kind of like an invisible friend. We just need to show him a real friend "tank". Its ok len, put down the rifle and step away from the water tower. A real tank wouldn't ask you to hurt people.

I'm thoroughly amused by the evolving strategies in trying to convince me to post pictures

Karl, http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2006/5/review (the BLV 14K "Nepturian"). It is definitely a bright bulb - brighter then my Aquaconnects. So far, I like what it's doing with coral pigmentation, but it's too early to tell. It is a lot less blue then the ACs though.

Okay! So the BLV 14K Nepturians are the same as the Ushio 14K? I tried to order the BLV from Singapore last night, but I can only get them in 12 piece cartons :?

I've been told they are the same. BLV = Ushio ... just the Nepturian brand name is iffy, but I can't imagine BLV Ushio making two different 14K bulbs. What I can tell you is the Ushio 14K from Premium is extremely bright.

I have been using the 250 watt SE Ushio 14k for 4 months and like it also. It has a nice crisp white. I replaced brand new 15K XM's with them, the XM's were too blue and dull looking for me.

I love the color of the Radiums, but want to get a high current bulb that's designed to be run with an HQI ballast. I'm finding that the only bulbs like that are some of the German ones.
