Tank update - Uh Oh?

Tank is still moving along slllooowwwlllyyyy.

Not much growth on the corals and not allot of coraline algae on the LR yet either.

I purchased 2 smaller pieces of LR this weeke and added them to the tank in hopes of reseednig the pod population and some dark coraline. Its been 5 days and still no signs of pods/worms/etc.

There are no fish in the tank yet still and I am thinking the very low nutrient level is affecting the growth of the corals. I think they may need ot be fed a little.

You could be right with needing some supplement for the corals, those softies appreciate occasional feedings.

it looks nice! I know it's hard to be patient, but remember, only bad things happen quickly in a reef tank

The 'pods/worms take a while to establish themselves, I wouldn't worry too much about it yet.

The pods in my fuge took forever but they're here now! But if you build it, they will come! :wink:

Man, get a fish in there! You won't regret it. I dont know what you feel about clowns, but here's a good recommendation: http://www.reefs.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=91743.

Everything might start growing a lot more when you have some fish in there, you know? And it'll also keep your interest a lot more! I'm glad you decided to not give up on your tank because it does look cool. And in 6-12 months, with some fish in there to feed :wink: , it'll look awesome!

The LFS's around here dont carry to much. The stuff they carry is the common fish, false percs, damsels, tangs, and bigger fish like angels and triggers. I am still searching for a fish though.

I am not feeding annything to the tank. Just Kalk for top off and a CA reactor.

I notice that my pod population is like a roller coaster. They peak and dip, but they always seem to peak again. Your tank is looking good, good luck.

Pods have to eat something. If you have much algae in the tank they can eat that - if not, I wouldn't expect to see their population increase greatly without any nutrient imput. In fact, I would expect to see it decline over time - your nutrient levels will get lower and lower if you have no imput and also export nutrients via a skimmer.

I assume they grow fairly quickly, or did you buy it that large? It seems like a good thing to buy to cover up large pieces of rocks. What is your advice on those two pieces? Are they pretty hardy? Do they grow fast? Thanks.

Those corals grow very well. I got them as 1 or 2 headed frags. I just sold the other HALF of them. I will be getting rid of some more in the future once i get some more SPS going.

I added 2 clown fish on Friday evening. One died yesterday. Cant find the fish anywhere either. It was on the bottom on Monday night and had a white film near its dorsal fin. Now down to 1 fish.

The bad part about this is that something does not look right in the tank. The vottom has a weird covering on it and I actually saw a piece of that green hair algae from hell on a piece of LR.

I am planning on doing a water change later in the week (making water) but this does not look too good. I am csrossing my fingers. If that stuff spreads there will be a tank sale so stay tuned.

IMO the tank never had enough to support fish life. The tank has been running very low nutrient and with only corals for 8 months. I would think by now the tank would have been OK but I guess not.

light tan/very light greenish - even looks a little hairy.

It could be an outbreak of cyanobacteria, a picture would help out a lot.
