I have a Galaxia coral, and he is doing fine. I have had him for about 2 months. He is probably to close to my mushroom and i need to move him. I only have a couple of options. The one that gives me the most distance is a lower flow area. Is a low flow position okay or do they need a medium type flow? Thanks

They really seem to like a diffuse medium flow, but you can try moving it, if it appears to be reacting badly, move it back. Question though, why not move the mushroom instead? Or is the mushroom on a larger rock that can't be moved?

Lawdawg,
good point, but the mushroom is on an ideal rock that he can grow on, so i prefer to keep him in place. As long as his sweeper tentacles are out and he is open is that a sign of doing good? I would assume so. thank you all.

Yeah, you can tell if it starts to look "sulky", it doesn't like where it is at.

First comment is... why the heck did you get a Galaxia? 8O

But that aside, I got one too and its caused a little work. I got a tiny litte frag and he sat there in a moderate flow, pushing out 3 inch sweepers that didn't quite reach anything. But the darn thing grows fast. I can't remember which of my books I read it in but they dont have very dense skeletons. Anyways, he gets to be the size of a tennis ball and sweepers are going out 5 inches now but luckily they seem to ge going where the other corals aren't. Pure luck. But then something happens to the flow and now I see sweepers sticking to xenia (no great loss) and a really nice purple acro. Panic stations, I have to cut a tip off the acro as it goes black.

I've now found the perfect place. It gets plenty of flow but he's surrounded by side of tank and a wall of rock at one end of the tank... his sweepers are being guided to the side of the tank or into the rock. He's happy and I can relax.

The tricky thing was that his skeleton had crept off the small rock he was on, onto the piggest piece of rock I had in the tank so I needed a screw-driver to lever him off the rock. Thought I'd crack him in two but things worked out.

These corals are a PITA but it really is the most remarked upon coral in the tank so I guess it's worth spending the time arranging the whole tank to keep him happy and away from everyone else.
