What are the advantages of reverse flow calcium reactors?

I suppose the title says it all. I have a choice between a conventional calcium reactor and a reverse flow one, but the reverse flow is about $100 more expensive. Is it worth the extra money?

Before talking about the justification, what is the reverse flow reactor that enables the manufacture to charge $100 more for it?

Obviously, it is not simply reverse the powerhead's input and ouput, but unless you have have the specific make and model, I won't feel comfortable in making any comment.

Generally speaking, in reverse flow reactor, the calcium media is less likely to be compacted and affect the efficiency of the reactor. But for $100, there gotta be other design element that goes into it, such as auto start, etc.

The reverse flow has more design details. There is a extra diffuser plate on the bottom that spreads the flow evenly and there is another plate and sponge on top. The regular design doesn't have these two. Other then that, they look similar. I might be missing something however. The pump might be bigger on the reverse flow.

There are lots of good reactors out there. I love my Schuran jet-stream and wouldn't switch back to a conventional reactor.
