I'm about to purchase a skimmer for my 75gal tank and I'm leaning toward the Octopus skimmers due to price. I noticed the Octopus 110 is rated for up to 75 gallons but for $25 more I can get the model 150 that is rated to 150 gallons. Will I benifit from the extra horse power of the 150 or would this be a waste of $25 dollars given my tank size :?:

Over skimming is always better than under skimming. Spend the extra 25 knowing you'll be ready for the bigger tank you will get in the future.

do not buy their impact or downdraft skimmer get the needlewheel as i have the impact skimmer and cant wait to replace it for several reasons.. one being it only skims for a day or 2 at a time then needs to be cleaned, and i have yet to get more then 1 cup of stuff out of it for 2 weeks of skimming and can't seem to figure out how to make it work..

thanks

protein skimmer ratings are usually pretty... uh... Let's say 'optimistic'. I wouldn't expect one rated at 75 gallons to actually do a great job skimming a 75 gallon aquarium - the 150 has a better shot.

Are you looking at the needlewheel version? I've heard good things about those.

I love my ASM G3. The octopus looks better made IMO. I too would get the bigger skimmer. The ASM G3 is rated for about a 180-22 gallon tank but 125-150 is more realistic. Euroreefs have more accurate ratings, but are way too expensive IMO.
