Aqua Medic T-5000 Baby

Anyone use one of these? I am looking for opinions. They look like nice skimmers at a very attractive price, but I have yet to see one in action.

I've only seen the 5000 Shorty. It's a MUCH better skimmer then the common Turboflotors T1000. The Baby (silly names, right? ) looks like a great skimmer. I can't imagine it being much better the comparable Euroreefs or Deltecs though. However, the price for the Baby is extremely attractive: a 48" for under $600!

To be honest, I can't make out a significant difference in performance between the various modern recirculating needle wheels that use comparably sized pumps.

I've installed several 5000 shorty skimmers for clients- what I like about them is that you can feed them from an overflow box drain, effectively skimming anything on the surface of the tankwater.

My only concern is that the Ocean Runner 3700 pump is able to draw enough air when operating at 4' of head pressure. That is why I would really like to see one in person running or get feedback from someone with one before purchasing.

AM matches their pumps to the skimmer otherwise it wouldnt work. There are no issues with AM TF line of skimmers they are quite frankly one of the best skimmers out there and highly efficient.

They are also a recirulating skimmer while the euro-reefs ( most of them) are not.

The TF line is also pretty much a set and forget skimmer. The ONLY thing i would recommend is to sit it in 6-10" of water for absolute optimum running conditions, this holds true for the shorty, baby and tf-1000. the full sized 5000 this doesnt apply.

Get one and enjoy it, you will not look back.
