Well for starters today I took out my long tentacle plate coral, because i thought someone could help him get better. As i get home i check the tank out, and notice my favorite fish, the sailfin is taking a liking to my xenia. The xenia i have is one of my favorites, and so is the sailfin. Decision time.. Tomorrow the xenia goes to the lfs.

It doesnt stop there. My flame angel ( not the safest) likes my mushroom. So, being that i have been hearing that flames are not all that reef safe, i dont mind parting with him. So he is getting bagged tomorrow and going with the xenia(seperate bags of course). Now i am stepping back thinking i wont have anything left. This sucks. As for the sailfin i need to keep a very close eye on him and make sure he does not have a taste for anything else. Otherwise i'm having fish dinner this weekend, more like a biscuit sandwich. :(

Len had his time to vent, and so this is mine.

I think the sailfin did you a favor. Xenias either grow like weeds and/or crash. I love how they look, but I consider them pests.

Same with shrooms! They are the very reason I had to take down my old 120g. I couldn't control their population boom. If your flame angel eats shrooms, I bet you can sell it for very good money :P I would've bought it.

I agree. Xenia are cool to watch when they are pulsing but man they get annoying fast. My xenia grew out of control and were even growing on my crocea clam's shell! I recently tore down that tank (due to a leak) and every single piece of xenia and mushroom I could find went into my brother's tank or were just scrubbed off the rock. I will never willingly introduce those into my tanks again. Las night I noticed a tiny stalk of xenia has popped up next to my clam again  . Anyway, sorry about the problems you've encountered. Hopefully things will go up from here.

If it were me, I'd let the tang eat the Xenia and the angel eat the shrooms. You will really appreciate the angel if it becomes an avid shroom eater. If not, I assure you there will be a long line of people asking you for it :) I know too many people who hate mushrooms after they've taken over the tank and choked all the other life out.

Xenia may be a weed, but it's such a damn nice weed. :D

Besides, it makes a better nutrient export mechanism then caulerpa 8)

I took my xenia out of my display and put in in my fuge for the export factor. Unfortunately it has popped up in three different places in the display.. I need the tang

I agree, I liked to encourage it to grow onto smaller plugs/shells and then trade them off. Win-win, I exported nutrients and got some neat stuff back in trade.

Well, you don't cut them at all they just fall apart. You "encourage" your colony to spread onto another rock or tile or shell you place next to the original colony. The best way I found was to place the target rock above the existing colony so the Xenia "crawls" up towards the light as it splits and grows.

yes i aggree with you on how to move them i was talking about totally just cutting or pulling or scraping them out of the tank my colony is approx 12 inches of rock covered with shoots all over and if i mow them down they just come back again and again and most of the rock they live on is colonized with other corals :)

Sorry, I didn't realize you wanted to kill them, your posts are a bit vague.
You can treat them just like aptasia and nuke them with kalkwasser paste and a syringe if you want to just kill them off, then use aquarium putty over the stubs.
