Tanks been up for close to a year from stuff moved fr the 75g and recently started getting some cyano mats on the LR, even in areas of fairly high flow. I've only used ro/di water, would say the tank is lightly stocked, don't think I over feed and no algae problems prior. Only recent changes would be I added a Ca reactor with ARM media but the cyano was starting to happen before then.

Testing zero nitrates with Salifert and all I could think was was to replace the filters and resin in the ro/di as TDS has creeped up to 20ppm. Just did the change and back to 2-3 PPM.

Little puzzled why?

I've had a similar experience in the last 6 months with cyano. Things I have done withing the past couple months that seemed to help eradicate it, almost..

1) Replaced my pc bulbs that were closing in on 1 year old
2) Ran a generous amount of Phosguard in the sump for about 1 week
3) Major cleaning of the rocks by syphoning the billions of bubble algae, detritus and pounds of cyano into a filter sock in the sump which I immediately removed (literally had probably 2 lbs of bubble algae and other gunk in at after 30-45 minutes of syphoning rocks in the tank)

4)Brought my calcium back up above 400 and alk in the 3.7-3.8 range
5) Added some snails and hermits (had not added any in over a year)

Seems to have helped. My next maintenance will be replacing the filter in my ro/di unit.

Good luck - try to get it before it gets out of control.

Have 2 - 40W fluorescents (1 daylight ~1 year old, actinic ~2 months) on for 12.5 hours and 2 - 250W 14k MH on for 8 hours (with the fluorescents). For the MH's one bulb is ~1 year, second maybe 6 months (original cracked). Had this schedule since about the start.

For about the last month steady with Ca 350 and alk 9.0.

On a suggestion fr beaslbob going to get some more macro as only have a couple of stems of Halimeda. Guess I'll also go wild with the turkey baster.

Reduce your lighting period. Cyano thrives with lengthy photo periods.
