Hi all,

I want to know if this is the best way to feed your coral..

1. Turn off the protein skimmer and leave it off for approx 30 mins to 1 hr during feeding

2. Mix Phytoplakton, frozen Mysis with tank water

3. Use a turkey baster to spot feed the coral.

4. Feed twice a week

Do you guys agree? Please share your thoughts

Thanks

For starters, Hello and welcome. I dont know how to do the fancy welcome message so sorry.

Secondly you will get more responses if you post under the new reefkeeper or general reefkeeper forum for this. Hopefully a moderator will move it for you soon.

For me when feeding my corals I feed once a week. I use a mix of cyclopsy's , mysid shrimp and stuff called coral vibrance( for acros and monti caps). I mix it in my tank water and use a turkey baster as well. So far i have had great growth and they seem very responsive.

I leave my skimmer running, however it is in my fuge/sump. I do however turn off my powerheads, but leave my return pumps running. I believe i am one of the few who actually turn off thier power heads when feeding.

I hope this helps, and again welcome..

Hi. I'll move this over to the General Reefkeeping Discussion forum.

Your feeding regiment looks fine to me. I would recommend Rotifeast by www.reefnutrition.com, or cyclopeeze as well. Feeding twice a week won't hurt if you can maintain water quality. I personally just keep my skimmer on during feedings.

They only thing I would add is to be sure you rinse any large particle frozen food (i.e. mysis, but not Rotifeast or Cyclopeeze) in tank water prio to feeding to reduce the unnecessary nutrients from being added to the tank water.
