There's no dumber place to put a large chunk of money than on a marine fish.

They come only from the Indian Ocean, so the logistics of getting them to the USA is very difficult and expensive. These fish have been selling out at about $3,000 per piece this year. They're cheaper in Europe and Asia.

I don't think those are Marillion's :P

So you are saying that these fish cost $3,000 each?? 8O

Does anybody even know someone that would spend that much on a fish that could die..

Does anyone have one??

I have never even seen one in the flesh.

Most valuable fish I have ever seen was a conspiculatus angel. He was going for about 1,500 back then. He had an eye infection too!

I am sure some people eat them when there is nothing else good to eat...

As crazy as it sounds, these fish sell out pretty quickly at $3,000.

Japanese hobbyists have been known to buy $10K+ fish 8O

People would be paying $3000 for Yellow Tangs if they were rare...but since they're all over the place, people look for other species.

This phenomenon never ceases to amaze me. If a species is common, it's somehow less desireable regardless of how attractive it is, while a rare, comparitavely nondescript species is sought after and goes for thousands just because it's rare. Conspiculatus angels are a good example.
