Attached are some drawings of my flow design currently. The tank is bare bottom.

The maxijet 1200 blows along the back bottom of the tank to move all the detritus to the front left corner where I can siphon it out.

The sump return goes to alternating returns.

The tunze is set to pulse from full to 1/2 every 10-20 seconds.

Any better ideas?

I suggest you run a hydrodynamic simulation to verify that the placement of the pumps is correct....

Seriously, I feel 10-20 seconds is too freqent, and may consider for a longer interval. Your tank, you preference.

Looks good to me too. Not much more you could do in a 3 foot tank, I think. :) Well, you could point the output coming from your overflow straight to the front of the tank where it'll collide with the tunze's flow and create a little more "randomness." That might work out pretty good.

P.S. That is the one thing that I really like about bare bottom tanks; You don't have to take the flow disturbing the sand into consideration. :D
