Well.
I have been feeling a little spacy the last week or so - kinda sick. I had 150 gallons of new water mixed up under the house ready to go for a water change. I checked the salinity of the tank and it was a little low, so I hit the fill switch that pumps water into the system from the mixing tank. I do this from time to time, filling the system above the auto top off line so evaporation slowly raises the salinity. Then, I left the house, but forgot to turn off the fill switch, and didn't realize it till I got home and went under the house to check something. This is where the pre planning comes in.
The sump system was filled to overflowing, but only a few gallons. Not only was the few gallons not a big deal because its under the house, but the sump is made to hold an extra 140 gallons. Plus, all the electric is above the sump so any water on the ground only hits ground and not plugs.
This could have been much worse from a stupid mistake. I have been planning to put the fill pump on a float switch, but haven't gotten around to it. This would have let the pump only pump in 20-50 gallons rather than 140 so if I was a real dummy, and the salinity of the new water was high or low, there wouldn't be much of an impact. Me very lucky. Float switch being ordered in the morning.
