I would like to set up a 30x30x12-18 (60-70 gal) frag tank. Can light with a single 250 pendant. I think the best off the shelf tanks for a frag tank is a 30 breeder or 40 breeder. They are wide and shallow.

It's been a while since I have been there. IIRC that tank is like 4ft square. For a home prop system the goal is to keep cost down. A tank you can lite with 1 halide would probably be the best. If the volume is small enough you can tie it in to your main system and save on a skimmer, heater, chiller, etc.

I could easily get away with a 20 long tied to my main system but am thinking that incase of a tank crash it would be best to keep the systems seperate. If I did lose a tank then at least I would have clones of quite a few corals anyway.

Is it necessary to have LR in a prop system?
