i just started the stand. the frame is made out of treated 4x4s. i think it will hold anything. kind of a overkill but the wife feels safe this way.

i used screws. i promise to keep taking pictures as i progress. i am going to trim the stand out in 3/4th inch oak plywood, then i am going to use solid oak for the doors and solid oak for the final trim. i am also going to be remodling the basement along side of setting up this tank.

i wrapped the stand 1 in 3/4 inch oak ply. took all my measurements in to lowe's and they cut the plywood with their panel saw.

What size sump are you putting in there? Looks like it might be a really tight fit to get it in!

i have not decided yet. either 2, 20 gallons or a 55 gallon. i making the side panel so i can take it off easy. what do you think, 20s or 55?

Well, I'm in the slow process of gathering up stuff for a 180 , and I'm going to have a sump and a fuge separate. The fuge will be a shallow and wide 25G, and the sump a 3-foot long, wide 50G. If you are thinking of doing a 20G for a sump, and 20G for a fuge then that could work. But 2 sumps is not necessary. The stardard 55s are a little tall to be used as sumps but if you don't mind it, bigger sumps are always better!

yeah i understand the slow part. my wife is going to flip a lid when she see's how much my skimmer and lights are going to cost. i will be at a stand still after that purchase. 8O

well, i tore down the entire basement. the 180 i am building was going to go on a stand in the basement. now it is getting built into a wall with a fish room directly behind the tank, room is appox 13'x5' just enough room for all the equipment and a small frag tank. i ordered lights tonight i decieded on 3 - 250 watt 14,000 hqi and 4 - 48" t-5 fixtures with 2 of the bulbs white and 2 actinic.
