How Do I Know?

To make a long story short, I purchased a Tiger Tail Sea Cucumber the other day to clean my sand. Now I know that it is nocturnal, but I have not seen any sign of it. Is there a way to know he is alive and the sally crab did not eat him? The sand is still dirty.
Any other ideas for my 46Bow reef tank. I want to keep the sand clean, but like a peaceful tank. The Sally has to go regardless.

I can't think of a way to find him. Hopefully, the cuke mops out one night for you to see it. But yes, the crab could've gone to town on it. I don't like Sally Lightfoots. They can get really aggressive and pretty big.

The sally lightfoot is on it's way to the LFS, but I need to catch him. I do not want to rip the reef apart for one pest. Also, do you know of any other good sand cleaners?

i have a tiger tail cucumber. and i also have sally lightfoot crabs (2)
the tigertail comes out whenever he wants. broad daylight even. nobody bothers him- sally lightfoot, porcelain crabs, coral banded, emerad crabs, ....
the tiger tail seems to like to dig in at the base of the rock, and pop out here and there. look for small piles of sand clumped together...like little sand poops. 8O

one of my sally lightfoot crabs was caught red handed (or should i say red clawed :lol: ) tearing some flesh from a nice red mushroom. :?
he will be banished to the sump when i catch him. :evil:

sleeper gobies sift the sand pretty good, and they are a nice looking fish.

engineer gobies sift sand as well, when they make their tunnels under the live rock. (they weaken the rock stacks and i suggest you place the rock deep in the sand, like on the glass bottom).
sand sifter stars don't do very much noticable sifting.
i just saw today- sand sifting shrimp. i don't know anything about them except they are very large and not very colorful. they reminded me very much of a cross between a mantis shrimp and perhaps a camelback.

Right now the sally is in the sump till I can find a good home. He was reaking havoc on my fish and some corals. I want to make a piecefull tank with color and beuty.
Mr-X, I had a sand sifting gobie. He was cool but spit sand everywhere. On top of that he really only ate my spaghetti worms. I want a detritus and algae eater. I like a natural looking tank with clean sand.
