OK all,

I am looking to get a (more?) small fish for the 90g.
Current inhabitants are 2 Ocellaris Clownfish and one Flame hawk.

Right now I am looking at getting:

Fridmani Pseudochromis - Tank-Bred
(Pseudochromis fridmani)

or

Striped Pseudochromis, Tank-Bred
(Pseudochromis sankeyi)

or

Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse
(Paracheilinus carpenteri)

Any reason for or against any of these fish? Any other suggestions?

I have had bad fish luck in the past (the 3 fish I have now are 2+ years old), thinking back to the fish that have passed only makes me sad.

The tank bred Pseudochromis fridmani is a very nice fish. Stunning purple color, lovely personality, and and will eat anything. Every tank should have one.

Pseudochromis sankeyi are mean SOBs. C.B. P.fridmani is as docile as Pseudochromis come. Flasher is great. Just make sure you have your tank covered. I would get one male and one or two females for the best experience. They're tiny and low metabolism, so it won't impact your tank's condition very much.

If I buy all the flashers juvenile only on will become male, correct?

Also these are not burrowing wrasse, as I only have ~1 inch sand...

They don't burrow. Rarely are juveniles available. Adults are usually not much bigger then 2". It's much harder to find females since most collectors net males only because they look much better (and thus sell more quickly). Females have less pronounced fins and less coloration. But keeping a male with females makes the males do some interesting things, as well as making them stay more colorful and impressive.

I've had a P. sankeyi for almost a year and he's really nice! :D Never seen him bother any of my fish at all. I like him because of his personality and hardiness. But he is reclusive at times. I like P. fridmanis for their color, though! ;)

P. fridmani is one of the very best marine aquarium fish out there. Consider a pair.

Do fridmani change sex to pair, or would I need to find a pair?

They can change sexes bidirectionally. During the mating cycle, one of the two is likely going to be pretty battered. This is normal. Tough love, I guess ;)

the ensuing adoption of a sailfin tang made the whole experience very tolerable...

and i am not a cruel guy, but it was kinda satisfying....

and er, it was, uh, time to re-scape....
