Currently I have paired maroon clowns, and bengai cardinal....will adding a small lawnmower blenny create any disturbances with the current tank inhabitants? Are there any other rock picking/cleaning fish I could get instead? I'm mainly worried my female maroon will have a problem. This would be my final fish for my tank. (40 gal tank BTW.)

Should be no problem. The only thing that bothers blennies IME is other blennies. I've had clowns with lawnmowers without incident.

the only time i have any trouble with my inhabitants is when i load up a clip with seaweed. blenny, sailfin and clown tang all fight over it. did you ever see the lip marks a lawnmower blenny can leave on a fish?

Blennys are usually species aggressive. They are only bothered by other blennies. However other vegetarians may be bothered by them if there isnt much food. My grouper HATED my blenny, but the blenny could care less about the grouper. My clowns dont even notice my lawnmower exists unless the lawnmower enters my anemone, and yes the blenny is immune to the anemones sting so you dont have to worry about losing a blenny if you have an anemone.

The one big caveat here that strangely has not been mentioned is that Lawnmower blennies often to not live long in captivity. Some adapt, eat well, maintain weight and thrive in the home aquarium. A large percentage however steadily drop weight, become emaciated, and die despite the presence of algae in the tank.

Furthermore, given the eventual size of a female maroon clown, coupled with it's aggressive tendencies, I'd say you're good to go in the fish department.

i never see any aggressive behavior between my tangs and blennies. however my orange shoulder tang occasionally has marks the exact size of my blennies mouth. i have yet to see him do it.
