Probably trying to poke him with his spine?

Are you lights on? I sometimes turn them off for the day when I have a reaction like that to new fish. I don't know if that will work for tang hostility though, they can be big time haters.

It'll take time but don't worry, it'll calm down soon. Purple Tangs are known to be a lot more aggressive than other tangs, like the Desjardinii Tang. The purple just needs to show who's boss and eventually they'll calm down. Since the purple's just swatting the desjardinii with its spine, i don't think there's much do worry about. If you find that bits of the desjardinii's fins start to get nipped at or the desjardinii develops ich, then you might want to take him out for a while. For future reference, turning the lights off for a few hours after introducing a fish always helps.

Good luck with the desjardinii and be sure to post pics when he settles in.

for sure the purple tang is deffinatly a bully he pushes around my royal gramma too ,and the desjardinii seems very dosile

they better work it out cause i dont want to have to take one of em out of my tank, that would be a hard choice
