When surfing the threads on MR, do you find it annoying to see the tang police pipe up in a thread that has nothing to do with tangs?

You have to ask yourself why the tang police is popping up in that thread.

Lets say if I asked whats the best food to feed my dog, but I locked my large dog in a tiny cage 24/7 barely able to stand up in the cage without hitting its head into some metal bars, would you keep quiet and only to the question? I would hope not

majority of the time its careless mistakes, people who havent done there homework on the livestock and people thinking they could do whatever they want... *buying a tang or 5 and putting them in the smallest tank possible is not a good idea... and you know what i will blast em 2 cause its inhuman to do such a thing... so if you consider good advice being the tang police then TANG POLICE ALL THE WAY :)....

There are certain things that we should not do in this hobby and 1 is animal cruelty... its messed up.. they dont have a choice where they go... so whatever threads you see with your so called "tang police" they were given good info and a warning that there tang/s dont belong in the home its in ;)...

I suppose there's Tang Police and then there's TANG POLICE! I've never seen the latter in MR, but on other boards definitely. TANG POLICE are the sort that claim that a Yellow Tang requires a tank no smaller than 125 gallons. Those types are annoying. I had a small Hippo in a 72 always knowing it'd have to be moved when it grew. It's just common sense.

Well said, I've also never seen the TANG POLICE on MR. I've had a baby YT in a 58, two tangs in a 90 I think most of us have Tangs in smaller tanks than they could remain for their adult lives. I also think that even the most guilty of us wouldn't classify a tang as a nano fish.

Well I voted "Eh, whatever", simply because Tang Police or not. If it is good advice I would accept it, if it is not good advice I would ignore it. And move on. As far as I am concerned everyone has their right to voice their opinion.
I did not see the thread fritz is talking about. But I would hope that 1Quicksubaru placed one of those tiny BlueHippos that I've seen in LFS in his nano. With the realization that he would have to move it as it grew.

of course i know its gonna grow. If it grows extremely fast before the new tank has cycled(which i know it wont) then I would do something about it. Either sell it and get a tiny one or trade it for a tiny one. I know the basics people... I dont take any offense to fritz or the "tang police". I never said I was going to leave it in a nano for the rest of its life... You all said what you had to say so move on and get over it...lol

I voted whatever, because it depends on the advice and the circumstance. If we all kept fish that would fit in our tanks as full grown adults, a lot of us would have empty tanks. With that being said if you have a extremely small tank and the fish you buy will out grow it in a few months or a year then I think you most realize that and plan accordingly or better yet wait till you have a bigger tank. Because everyone says they will upgrade when the time comes but as many of us know thinks change and financial situation change, so you most select fish that will give you plenty of time before you need to upgrade. With that being said once someone makes the person aware of how big and /or fast a fish grows and the person responses that he realizes that then it should end there. A while ago I posted about a Bodianus opercularis I added to my 29 gallon which the tang police were all over me for. Than they found out I have a metallic fox face, maroon clown, and a dwarf canary moray in the same tank and they were all over me for it. I responded that they are all small and I have plans for a 120 which is currently cycling which they will all move to. That should have been the end of it there but it continued for a while till someone chimed in with something similar to what I said in the first paragraph about keeping adult fish. So I have no problem with the tang police as long as it is to inform them and it ends there.

I voted whatever.

However, that does not mean I won't tell them(those I have at least some contacts with beofre) POLITELY in a PM not to keep potentially big fish in small tank. I would begin like "Hmm, your fish could grow big very fast, consider preparing a big home for them when time comes or even in advance, GL and enjoy."

I have a question, "How many of us, especially the ones who owned a tang and voiced "not a tang in so or so size tank", have ever had their tangs live to adulthood to the over 12" range? I have not seen one pic of a MR member who has a tang over 12" Did they all die in their tank before then or sold to someone who never show their large tangs pics in MR.

BTW, anyone up for a challenge to show the largest tang in MR? You don't have to tell us the size of your tank. HAHAHHA
