DSB addition question

It has been a while since I have been here, but here is a question for you master reefers out there. I am moving this week into a new house. So the 90 gallon is going to be moved. It is from an established aquarium of about 2 years in age. I upgraded my 46BF to the 90 6 months ago. Everything is going great. Here is the question. I want a deeper sand bed, Mine is currently 1.5 inches at the deepest and BB at the shallowest. Is there any reason I can't add another inch or two during the move when all the rock, fish and coral are out of the tank? Any insight will be helpful thanks.

Chris,

go ahead and add as much as you want. However, time has proven that full sized DSBs can become problematic. So I wouldn't crank it up to 6" of sand.

Not going to be set up but for another 18 months at the most. So it won't be up long enough to be problematic I suppose. Would it be better to go a little at time maybe a cup a day spread through out? Or full monty dump?

I'd soak the sand you are going to add a few days (helps settle the fines and stop cloudiness) and then mix new with old during the move. Should work just fine.

i have a 5" dsb, do your self a favor , keep it no more than 2", i wish i had =(.....................my tank is fine, i just think it would be better with less sand...it fuels cyano, etc. , etc.

2 inches is what I am aiming for.

I added sand with corals and fish in the tank, and there was no problems. I made sure to rinse it like crazy before i added it though.
