I have a 40 gal tank and I was wondering if it would be safe to keep anthias or a Purpleback Pseudochromis considering I have a fire shrimp and a harlequin shrimp. I read that they need to monitored with shrimp in the tank. Just wanted your opinions. Right now I'm saying NO.

Thanks!

It won't eat the shrimp (too small). Some anthias don't need much swimming as certain species are rather sedimentary creatures. My bimac anthias, for example, don't swim much. They simply hover. Anthias are definitely shrimp safe too.

BTW, the Purpleback Pseudochromis is a very mean SOB. If you have other fish, you might want to skip this species. Captive bred Orchid Dottybacks are a lot more docile and very pretty too :)

I dunno if the orchid is the same as a Fridmani Pseudochromis but I know those are peaceful.

You can. Get two small specimens (juveniles are probably available since these are captive bred). When they are mating though, one will beat the beezesus out of the other.
