What tool do you use to trim frag plugs

I just received a pair of milleporas from DFS. However, the plugs they're on are about 2 inches long. Plugs are nice for growers, but they suck when trying to mount corals - unless you feel like ripping your rockwork out and drilling.

Can I use a pair of cutters to trim this thing down? What do you use?

Everytime I ever tried trimming up the frag plugs from ORA the resulting shock from the plug giving way would cause the coral to snap and lose branches all over.

If it's a rock plug, just use a tile saw. That's what I do with rock when needed.

I use large bone cutters with success (stuff MD and Dr.F&S sells). I've also used hack saws, but it's more potentially destructive and sometimes hard to use if the coral's grown blocks your access.

LOL realized I never really answered the question. I use those plier type cutters. They rust out fater a while but are cheap enough to jut buy another pair.

You can also use a dremel with a diamond wheel or something.

I just trimmed one of the plugs. Hacksaw. I REALLY tried not to rush, but man I was stressed. Ended up getting 2/3 of the way around it and used clippers to snap it off. Coral looks fine after about 20 minutes. One more to go.

I can't imagine what it's like doing your first frag. I guess you get used to it though. Just wish a screw didn't cost you $50-60 .
