Dumb question, I'm changing my RO system and going with a RO/DI system. Is it ok to drink DI water.

I'm trying to remember what I used to read about DI water being too high in sodium... and therefore bad for you. But I'm thinking that with RO in front of it, it won't have any sodium.

Also, RO water tastes OK (better than my San Jose muni water) so how does RO/DI taste.

It's perfectly safe. I drink RO/DI water all the time and only have mild memory loss and muscle spasms.

softened water (water processed by water softener) is very high in sodium, if the input water is hard.

RO/DI water is not high in any mineral. The issue with RO/DI is that if you use a slightly dirty container, it just ruin all the effect to RO/DI it in the first place. I recommand people who insist in drinking RO/DI to use a NSF-approved PP cup, after it is triple-rinsed with double-distilled water following by a small amount of RO/DI to make sure there is no containment in the container.

Seriously, drinking RO/DI is fine, just a big waste of money. Most people who have a RO/DI for their reef just tee off the RO before the DI for drinking purpole, with a carbon postfilter.

All joking aside... I really ought to clean out my mixing trash can.

That is a great point. I'll Tee it off into the drinking tank... not as though it's a hard DIY project.

the r/o unit takes out 99% of all minerals from the water, thats why we use it for the sea water. so we can control the environment. You can drink it its pure water, but lacks the minerals your body needs from water. I guess if your taking a daily supplement, you wouldn't need to worry about getting your minerals from your water.
